If you were to visit only one city in Australia, most people would recommend Sydney without hesitation. Located on the southeastern coast of New South Wales, Sydney is home to over five million residents, making it the largest and most cosmopolitan city in the country. The Sydney Opera House, designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon, is considered one of the most remarkable architectural achievements of the twentieth century. Had the government not persisted with the project despite massive cost overruns, this iconic landmark might never have been completed. The Sydney Harbour Bridge, affectionately known as 'the Coathanger' by locals, offers breathtaking views to those who dare to climb it. What surprises many visitors is how diverse and multicultural Sydney has become. Walking through suburbs such as Newtown, Surry Hills, and Chippendale, you would encounter restaurants representing virtually every cuisine on earth. It is estimated that over two hundred languages are spoken across the greater Sydney metropolitan area.

Had I known how spectacular this walk was, I would have visited Sydney years ago! The Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk stretches approximately six kilometres along dramatic sandstone cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. I was told by a local that the walk is best enjoyed in the early morning, when the light illuminates the ocean in shades of turquoise and sapphire. Along the route, there are several ocean pools where swimmers can be seen doing laps regardless of the season. Were it not for the gentle sea breeze, the midday sun would have been quite intense. I would highly recommend this walk to anyone visiting Sydney, whether they are experienced hikers or casual strollers.
