Sydney: Where Icons Meet the Harbour

If you were to visit only one city in Australia, most people would recommend Sydney without hesitation. Located on the southeastern coast of New South Wales, Sydney is home to over five million residents, making it the largest and most cosmopolitan city in the country. The Sydney Opera House, designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon, is considered one of the most remarkable architectural achievements of the twentieth century. Had the government not persisted with the project despite massive cost overruns, this iconic landmark might never have been completed. The Sydney Harbour Bridge, affectionately known as 'the Coathanger' by locals, offers breathtaking views to those who dare to climb it. What surprises many visitors is how diverse and multicultural Sydney has become. Walking through suburbs such as Newtown, Surry Hills, and Chippendale, you would encounter restaurants representing virtually every cuisine on earth. It is estimated that over two hundred languages are spoken across the greater Sydney metropolitan area.

📍 Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Had I known how spectacular this walk was, I would have visited Sydney years ago! The Bondi to Coogee Coastal Walk stretches approximately six kilometres along dramatic sandstone cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Starting at the world-famous Bondi Beach, the trail winds through Tamarama, Bronte, and Clovelly before reaching Coogee. What makes this walk particularly special is the ever-changing scenery — from pristine beaches to rugged clifftops, from Aboriginal rock carvings to contemporary sculptures. I was told by a local that the walk is best enjoyed in the early morning, when the light illuminates the ocean in shades of turquoise and sapphire. Along the route, there are several ocean pools where swimmers can be seen doing laps regardless of the season. Were it not for the gentle sea breeze, the midday sun would have been quite intense. I would highly recommend this walk to anyone visiting Sydney, whether they are experienced hikers or casual strollers.

If I had known... と同じ意味ですが、よりフォーマルで文語的な響きがあります。レビューに出てきた Had I known how spectacular this walk was, I would have visited Sydney years ago! のように使います。

A (Koa):
Excuse me, I've just arrived in Sydney. Could you recommend some must-see attractions?
B:
G'day! Welcome to Sydney. If I were you, I'd start with the Opera House and Circular Quay — it's absolutely stunning.
A (Koa):
That sounds wonderful. How long would it take to walk from Circular Quay to the Harbour Bridge?
B:
Only about fifteen minutes, mate. You can also do the BridgeClimb if you're not afraid of heights.
A (Koa):
I've heard about that! Is it true that you can climb to the top of the bridge?
B:
Absolutely! It's pricey — around $300 — but it's said to be one of the best experiences in Sydney.
A (Koa):
That's a bit expensive. Are there any free activities you'd recommend?
B:
If you were looking for something free, I'd suggest the Bondi to Coogee walk. The scenery is phenomenal.
A (Koa):
Someone told me that the walk takes about two hours. Is that accurate?
B:
That's roughly right, though it depends on how often you stop for photos. Most people end up taking longer than they'd expected.
A (Koa):
I wish I had more than three days here. There seems to be so much to do.
B:
Yeah, three days isn't nearly enough for Sydney. If you had a week, I'd also recommend a day trip to the Blue Mountains.
