Finding a Share House in Australia

Share houses have been chosen by many Working Holiday makers as the most affordable way to live in Australia. Websites like Flatmates.com.au and Facebook groups are used to find available rooms. A room in a share house, which usually includes access to a shared kitchen and bathroom, costs between 150 and 300 dollars per week in major cities. An inspection, which is also called an "open for inspection" or simply a viewing, should be arranged before you sign any agreement. During the inspection, questions about bills, internet, and house rules should be asked. A bond, which is usually two to four weeks of rent, is required before you move in. It is important that the bond receipt is kept safely because it will be needed when you move out. Share houses that have been well maintained are usually the ones where housemates communicate openly.

📍 Share House in St Kilda, Melbourne
⭐⭐⭐⭐

I have been living in this share house in St Kilda for one month, and I am really enjoying it. The room, which was advertised on Flatmates.com.au, is clean and spacious. The house, which is shared by four people from different countries, has a great atmosphere. House rules that were explained during my inspection include cleaning the kitchen after use and keeping noise down after 10 PM. Bills for electricity and internet, which are split equally among all housemates, come to about 30 dollars per week each. A bond of two weeks' rent was required, and I was given a receipt that should be kept until I move out. The location is fantastic — the beach, which can be reached on foot, is only five minutes away. I have already made friends who I will keep in touch with after I leave Australia.

内見で確認すべきこと

内見では「Is the bond lodged with a government body?」と聞きましょう。正式な契約では保証金は州の機関に預けられます。また「Are bills included in the rent?」(家賃に光熱費は含まれていますか?)も重要な質問です。

シェアハウスの詐欺に注意

実際に見ないまま送金するのは絶対に避けましょう。「Please transfer the bond before viewing」と言われたら詐欺の可能性が高いです。必ず内見してから支払い、領収書をもらいましょう。

That sounds reasonable. What about the bond? How much is required?
