I teach English. Have done for fourteen years. And for fourteen years I've been quietly annoyed that everyone treats it like the finish line. It's a crowbar — you use it to pry open a life you couldn't reach before.

The myth I'm here to wreck
Japan tells itself a bedtime story: "Japanese people can't speak English." Ten years of school English, and the story still wins — because it was never about grammar. It's about never once getting proof you're the exception. So I build proof. Small, daily, hard-to-argue-with proof.
What it actually is
A field of free tools you can graze on alone — and me, waiting at the fence for the ones who hit a wall.
- The free stuff: a level check, a Cairns survival phrasebook (with the local slang, because "no worries" is load-bearing here), 30-day themed workbooks, an English journal an AI quietly fixes, conversation-prompt decks, an AI roleplay partner you can't scare off, and a fat pile of hand-picked resources.
- A "map" tool that makes you say out loud where you're going, and why. (People hate it. It works.)
- 1-on-1 coaching, for the ones who want a guide — for English, and the messier stuff around it.
Most of it I built with AI, at roughly zero cost, from a laptop. One person. Don't tell my competitors.
Who's doing all this
Me. I failed English first — 280th out of 300 in my year in high school — then got petty about it and clawed my way to 6th. That's basically my engine: spite, pointed somewhere useful. Ten years at a cram school, where I somehow became known as "the teacher who doesn't teach" (zero dropouts, so it held up). Cognitive linguistics degree. Eiken 1, IELTS 7.5, CEFR C1, TOEIC 925, teaching licence, counselling qual — the paper, if you need the paper. In Cairns since 2022, after four years of being taken apart and put back together by a life-coaching mentor.
My job is to become unnecessary.
I guard the chrysalis from the outside. I don't get to be the butterfly — that part's yours. When you can fly, you don't need me. That's not the sad ending. That's the point.
Where this is heading
Some of the tools work for anyone learning English, not just Japanese speakers — which gets interesting fast, given Cairns is full of people from everywhere. uchiwai is the learning half of a small thing I'm building; a sister project, Letters from Cairns Locals, is the community half.
I'm doing this mostly solo, from Cairns, on AI and stubbornness. Partner, connector, or just someone who gets it — come say hi.
